Mexican berry industry is experiencing significant expansion in both volume and quality

The berry industry in Mexico, with a focus on blueberries, is experiencing significant expansion in both the volume and quality of its output. Anticipations are set for the blueberry sector to surpass 80,000 tons in export production, aiming to be competitive globally.

This growth trajectory is supported by collective efforts from both union and state entities, particularly in Jalisco. Discussions with Ana LucĂa Camacho Sevilla, the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, shed light on the crucial role of SADER and the overarching challenges faced by the agricultural sector in Mexico, including the impacts of climate change on food production.

Despite these challenges, the berry sector in Mexico, especially in Jalisco, demonstrates resilience and leadership in exports, underpinned by sustainable agricultural practices. Jalisco's favorable climate contributes to the cultivation of 15,000 hectares of various berries, highlighting the region's commitment to the orderly expansion of this agroindustry.
