Adverse weather significantly impacts raspberry production in Serbia

According to the 2023 Agricultural Census brochure by the Statistical Office of Serbia (RZS), Serbia hosts 508,325 agricultural households, predominantly family farms (506,323). The nation's total land spans 3.94 million hectares, with 3.23 million hectares (82.1%) classified as agricultural land.

According to agroberichtenbuitenland, family households utilize 90% of the agricultural land, predominantly for arable land and gardens (77.7%), orchards (6.0%), and vineyards (0.6%). Corn and wheat are the primary crops, representing 50% and 40% of cereal cultivation, respectively.

However, adverse weather conditions have significantly impacted raspberry production, halving the yield compared to the previous year, with expectations of 25,000 to 30,000 tons if further hail is avoided. Dobrivoje Radovic, president of the Association of Raspberry Producers, reported that recent hail and floods damaged about 15% of the yield, with some areas seeing reductions of 40-70% due to price drops and lack of agro-technical measures. Last year's production reached 55,000 thousand tons, with nearly all of the 65,000 thousand tons, including stock, exported.
