Sri Lanka: First model village for strawberry cultivation established in Nuwara Eliya

The Agrarian Development Department has taken steps to establish Sri Lanka's first model village for strawberry cultivation based on four villages in Nuwara Eliya.

This model cultivation village was established on the instructions of Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

A model village was established for each fruit and vegetable to be cultivated so that they could be exported. Accordingly, this strawberry cultivation has been started in 42 net houses through 50 farmers at a cost of Rs. 20 million.

From this strawberry cultivation, the strawberry plants imported from Australia to Sri Lanka will be distributed among the farmers. The planting planting in safe houses has been completed by now. The government has granted Rs. 320 million to the Agrarian Development Department for this year.
