Cyclone Remal damaged agriculture in Jashore, Bangladesh

In Jashore, Bangladesh, Cyclone Remal has led to the damage of crops across 3,074 hectares, as reported by the district's Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). The cyclone brought heavy rainfall and strong winds, intensifying during the evening. A variety of crops were impacted, including vegetables, banana, mango, sesame, papaya, mug, chilli, jute, litchi, and lemon. Specifically, the cyclone affected 1,429 hectares of vegetables, 67 hectares of bananas, 114 hectares of mangoes, 331 hectares of sesame, 26 hectares of papaya, 36 hectares of moong dal, 60 hectares of chilli, 972 hectares of jute, 36 hectares of litchi, and three hectares of lemon. Dr Sushanta Kumar Tarapdar, DAE Deputy Director, mentioned that an assessment of the full extent of the damage might take a couple more days, starting with identifying the total land area affected.
