According to data from the State Statistics Service, Ukrainian farms of all categories harvested 258,300 tons of vegetables from closed ground in 2023, marking a 3% decrease compared to the previous year's 266,200 tons. Despite the decrease in yield, the harvested area decreased by only 1.5% to 4,400 hectares compared to 2022.
Fruit vegetables grown in closed ground amounted to 253,300 tons, down by 2.8%, with a corresponding decrease in the area to 4,200 hectares (a 1.5% reduction). Tomatoes, with 142,400 tons harvested, representing a 1% increase. Cucumbers and gherkins harvested from greenhouses amounted to 106,900 tons, showing a decline of 7.4%, while sweet peppers increased by 11% to 3,800 tons.
Bulb vegetables grown in closed ground (leeks, shallots, onions, garlic) totalled 1,400 tons, marking an 8.4% decrease, with their cultivated area reduced by 17.4% to 40.4 hectares. Radishes decreased by 6.5%, with 580 tons harvested from 20.4 hectares (a 5.8% reduction).
Leafy and stem vegetables occupied 74.3 hectares, showing a 2% increase, but yielded 11% less at 2,800 tons, including cabbage, lettuce, dill, and parsley.
