Paul Hussey - Donnelly Fresh:

"Aldi Ireland’s preference is to move to Irish strawberries as soon as possible"

The Irish strawberry harvest started for Donnelly Fresh on March 26. The strawberries are grown in a modern glasshouse in North County Dublin.

"We started with small volumes, but this week will see them increase and we expect to have in excess of 40,000 kg per week at the peak of the season."

Donnelly's early season fruit is grown by Sunglow Nurseries exclusively for Aldi.

"There is always good demand for Irish grown produce, there is plenty of imported Spanish strawberries on the market just now but Aldi Ireland's preference is to move to Irish strawberries as soon as possible. For consumers its about provenance, taste and sustainability."
