In the following survey, Jan Eriksson, an MSc student in the Master of Integrated Building Systems at ETH Zürich, and Dr. Zhongming Shi and Dr. Christoph Waibel of the ETH, Architecture and Building Systems are researching the interest in sustainable, homegrown food with a twist.
"As part of the ETH project "Building-Integrated Farming", we are researching green facades for the sustainable cultivation of crops. The project originated in Singapore, where a lack of agricultural land is forcing a shift towards vertical farms. Through cooperation with Singapore, the Department of Architecture at ETH (https://lnkd.in/dm9u7xH2) is taking part in this endeavor and translating it into a Central European context. The product of the research should be a simple façade system that allows tenants and homeowners to grow crops in an urban environment," Jan shared.

The development of a practical and accessible system requires cooperation with potential users and interested parties from the population who have already gained experience in gardening. In the following survey, we present four design variants. We are building one of them on a 1:1 scale in the following weeks.
