Mohammad-Reza Seyed-Hosseini, the head of the Iranian Sistan-Baluchestan province's Agriculture Department, said that every year, 73,000 tons of different types of products such as tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplants, strawberries, and leafy vegetables are produced in greenhouses of the province and sent to domestic and foreign markets.
Saving water consumption, increasing productivity, the possibility of planting and harvesting crops in all seasons, and the ability to deal with threats and damages due to the possibility of control and preventive measures are the advantages of greenhouse cultivation in the province, the official noted.
Also, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplants, strawberries, leafy vegetables, and roses are the main products produced by the greenhouses of this province, and a significant part of these products, such as tomatoes, have been exported abroad, he added.
This year, more than 10,000 tons of greenhouse products have been harvested from 386 hectares of land in this province and sent to domestic and foreign markets, according to the head of the province's Agriculture Department.
In early July, the director of the Agriculture Ministry's Greenhouse Development Program announced that 23,000 hectares of land are under greenhouse cultivation throughout the country.
