Ed Curry, a hot pepper breeder from South Carolina who crossed and cultivated the Carolina Reaper, spicier than most pepper sprays used by the police to subdue unruly criminals, broke his own world record.
Yes, the Carolina Reaper (2,200,000 Scoville Heat Units or SHU) was previously listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's spiciest chilli pepper. And now, Curry has introduced a pepper three times hotter – Pepper X, with 2,693,000 SHU. Ed grew the pepper on his farm for over 10 years, crossbreeding it with some of his spiciest peppers to increase the capsaicin content.
On October 9, the Guinness World Records publicly declared Pepper X as the spiciest pepper in the world.
Curry said that when he first tried Pepper X, it not only warmed his heart. Only a few dared to eat this pepper, especially when witnessing the agony of those who tried it. Only five people in the world, including Ed Curry, have tasted Pepper X.
"For about three and a half hours, I felt the heat. Then the cramps started,- described the expert, - These cramps were awful. For about an hour, I lay in a heap on the marble floor in the rain and moaned in pain," noted the researcher.
