Cucumber grower makes turnaround and starts storing caravans

The Smeets family from Helmond has made a big turnaround: from 50,000 cucumbers to storing 710 campers and caravans. It turned out to be a golden move, the entrepreneurs behind Stalling De Weyer told Omroep Brabant.

Together with her husband Johan and son Rick, Monique Smits ran a greenhouse horticulture business. At that location, they set up a stabling site early last year. They expected the former cucumber greenhouses to be completely filled with motorhomes and caravans after about three years, but after a year and a half, they had already succeeded.

For her 24-year-old son Rick, the transition from cucumbers to campers and caravans took some getting used to. "That decision was hard because I had always envisaged continuing with the cucumbers," she says.
