From January 1, 2024, tomato nurseries Prominent Grevelingen and Prominent Hoogerbrugge will operate as one company. Owners Arnold and Marc Groenewegen and Erik Hoogerbrugge announced this decision to merge today. The members of Prominent – a 50% shareholder in both companies – also gave the green light for the merger on Thursday. And with this, two more members of the Growers United Cooperative are joining forces.
The merger will create a modern 25.5-hectare greenhouse horticulture business specializing in growing vine and loose tomatoes. “Together, we can do things smarter and better, and that will lead to a more robust organization. I am convinced of that,” says Erik Hoogerbrugge.
According to the three growers, scaling up is a must to secure the future of the business. Arnold Groenewegen: “The companies complement one another. And in an ever-changing playing field with rising costs, joining forces helps us meet all the challenges head-on.” Arnold is looking forward to it. With twenty years at the Grevelingen site under his belt, this step injects new energy. So he sees it as an exciting new challenge. Marc Groenewegen is a relentless optimizer. “Getting the best out of your crop and your people. Constantly striving to be the best. That’s what gives me energy,” Marc adds.
By taking this step, Arnold, Marc, and Erik are ensuring the continuity of their business. The entrepreneurs not only want their employees to be happy but also want to provide them with plenty of development opportunities. The scale of the new company will offer these opportunities. The entrepreneurs are also not ruling out further growth in the future.
