Tomeco and Coöperatie Hoogstraten launch new brand during Fruit Attraction:

"A lot of tomatoes used for sauces and soups due to an increase in home cooking"

Tomeco and Coöperatie Hoogstraten have launched a new brand: Thomasso. The tomatoes marketed under the brand have been grown by Tomeco's growers for Coöperatie Hoogstraten for some time, but with this launch, the company wants to highlight the variety's characteristics. "It is a refined, recognizable plum tomato of the San Marzano type with a few unique characteristics. An ideal tomato for soups and sauces," says Tom Verdonck of Tomeco.

'Thomasso, the best for soups and sauces. ' This is how Coöperatie Hoogstraten and Tomeco officially launched the brand during the past Fruit Attraction. In the days before the fair in Madrid, there were some hints of a launch, and at the opening of Fruit Attraction already. The new Thomasso tomatoes were shown to an interested crowd. "It's a variety that we've been offering for a while, but it often didn't get the love it deserves. It was relatively unknown, which is a real shame because it's a perfect tomato to incorporate into hot dishes."

The Italian San Marzano is known for its suitability for soups and sauces. The tomato contains little water few seeds, has a balanced umami flavor, is somewhat sweeter, and the pulp is on the thicker side. Among Italians, the tomato is seen as an ideal base for processing in soups and sauces, among other things. "With the Thomasso, we have the ideal soup and sauce tomato from Belgian soil, which we are happy to present to the general public."

So this is what Tomeco, which markets its products exclusively through Coöperatie Hoogstraten, has now done during Fruit Attraction. "Soon, we will also go big with this product in Belgium. I'm sure we can convince consumers to use these tomatoes for their soups and sauces. Certainly, given the increase in home cooking, we are seeing a lot of potential for our Thomasso."
