Danny Mucci, Managing Partner with Mucci Farms

Focusing on a new tomato variety and sustainable packaging options

Earlier this year, the first harvest of Savorries sweet strawberry tomatoes took place in Ontario, Canada. It’s a tomato shaped like a strawberry. “In just a short amount of time, Savorries have already made a big impact on consumers,” says Danny Mucci, Managing Partner with Mucci Farms. “They are our signature product for 2023 because of their top-notch flavor, versatility, and on-the-vine format.” Savorries are sweet like a strawberry and savory like a tomato. At the same time, they offer lots of versatility as they can be used as a salad topper, in a sauce, or as a snack.

“Our team is always searching the world for new, innovative varieties.” That’s why over 300 seed varieties are consistently being trialed in our research and development facility. “In that process, Savorries quickly established itself as a variety we had to share with retailers. It’s a result of our dedication to product innovation and a forward-thinking mindset,” added Mucci. Savorries are available in 12-ounce clamshells as well as a 1.65 lb. top seal packaging. Attendees of IFPA’s Global Produce & Floral Show will be able to take a closer look at Savorries in the Main Fresh Ideas Showcase as well as in the Mucci booth (#481).

New sustainable packaging option
Apart from packaging solutions for Savorries, Mucci Farms’ R&D team also concentrates on sustainable packaging for the company’s other greenhouse products. “It should come as no surprise that sustainability is a major focus for our company and industry. Currently, we are in the trial and testing stages of a new package called NetPac.”

This all-new container is made from PP Mono material, using 50 percent less plastic with a 40 percent reduction in weight from standard PET. NetPac is 100 percent recyclable, sealable with both plastic and paper and available in top seal formats. “Adding to our lineup of several award-winning options, we are excited to engage retailers on this new package,” said Fernanda Albuquerque, Packaging Development Manager. The new packaging will also be on display at IFPA’s Global Produce & Floral Show in Anaheim.

Curious to take a look at these new items? Visit team Mucci Farms at booth #481 at the Global Produce & Floral Show on October 20 and 21. “In addition to visiting our booth and the Main Fresh Ideas Showcase, we also encourage attendees to look out for our Savorries ads around the convention center and host hotel.” Scan the QR code to win prizes, including a $500 Visa gift card.
