Van Dijk Heating at the CGC:

“What is sometimes lacking is a proper overview of the available options"

On October 4 and 5, the Niagara Falls Conference Center opened its doors for the Canadian Greenhouse Conference. The event is a must-visit for entrepreneurs who are active in the rapidly expanding greenhouse horticulture sector on the North American continent. One of the speakers is Ton van Dijk from Van Dijk heating, who will be delivering a presentation and workshop on the theme of Your Greenhouse as Battery.

“In Europe, saving energy and sustainability have been priorities for a long time already, but they are also topical in North America,” says sales manager Ton van Dijk. “And given that the winter climate in major production areas such as Ontario is more extreme than in the Netherlands, growers and installation companies are very responsive to energy-efficient technology such as our AVS-C. My talk is far broader than that though.”

Optimizing energy management
Van Dijk will be giving a comprehensive talk on the various options growers have at their disposal to optimize their energy management in an integrated manner and become less dependent on fossil fuels. “This has been the focus in the Netherlands for many years, and a lot has already been achieved. This is also being observed in North America,” he explains. “What is sometimes lacking is a proper overview of the available options and sufficient knowledge to translate these into choices that work well for the local conditions and are cost efficient too. I’m keen to get those attending the conference on board, with our active ventilation systems as an example. There is a high demand for them in North America. Precisely because of these harsh winters, it is very important for growers to keep their greenhouses closed as long as possible, and actively dehumidify them, and make the most of latent heat from humid greenhouse air. That’s all I want to say about it for now, but if you want to hear more, you will have to come along to the conference.”
