Spain has exported a total of 774.97 million kilos of peppers between the 2020/2021 campaign and the 2022/2023 campaign that has just ended, i.e., 9.17% less than the amount exported in the previous campaign and 12.4% compared to the two previous campaigns, according to a report prepared by Hortoinfo.
More than half of that decrease is due to the reduction in purchases from the three main destinations for Spanish pepper. Compared to the 2020/21 campaign, Germany has reduced its purchases of Spanish pepper by 9.49% (26.32 million kilos less), France by 15.55% (19.34 million kilos less), and the United Kingdom by 15.59% (18.62 million kilos).
However, despite this decrease in volume, in the 2022/2023 campaign, Spain achieved a record revenue of 1,597.93 million euros for its pepper exports because the average price of this product stood at €2.06/kg.
Main destinations
Sightly more than 3 out of every 10 peppers that Spain exported in the 2022/2023 campaign were destined for the German market. In this campaign, Spain sent to Germany 250.98 million kilos of peppers worth 557 million euros, at an average price of €2.22/kg.
It was followed by France with 105.06 million kilos worth 209.46 million euro and an average price of €1.99/kg.
The United Kingdom ranked third with 100.76 million kilos worth 188.23 million euro and an average price of €1.87/kg.
