VBT figures week 38:

Peppers pricey for this time of year

The peak prices for yellow and green peppers declined slightly again last week at VBT, but a rebound in the price of red peppers still makes for another high average price, well above the five-year average. Tomato and cucumber average prices are below average, especially for cucumber.

Prices of peppers (per kg)

Steadily, Spanish supply is entering the market, a trader noted earlier this week. He called the peppers "pricey".

There is little movement in the average unit price for cucumber. From 33.4 euro cents in week 37, the price has risen to 33.9 euro cents in week 38.

For tomatoes, as in week 37, it is the loose tomato that yields the highest average price at over 1.11 euros. That is down slightly from 1.18 a week earlier, though, which means the average price drops back to just below the five-year average. The same goes for vine tomatoes, where prices remain far behind the high prices achieved in 2022. The average price came to just over 78 euro cents per kilo in week 38.

Across the board, strawberry prices climbed a tiny bit again after a price drop. Average prices for the different varieties generally did not increase, with the exception of Elsanta, with a minimal plus of 1.4 euro cents per kilo compared to week 37.
