VBT figures week 33:

Strawberry price drops back to 'normal'

After a slight price rise in recent weeks for tomatoes, that of loose tomatoes stagnated at the VBT last week, while vine tomatoes showed a slight price drop. Over 81 euro cents per kilo had to be paid for a vine in week 33. Loose tomatoes were slightly more expensive at 88 euro cents.

Both average prices at the auctions of the Verbond van Belgische Tuinbouwcoöperaties (Federation of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives) are still above the five-year average, despite the price drop for vine tomatoes.

Cucumber prices

This has not been true for cucumber since last week. There, the price in week 33 dipped below the five-year average with a unit price of 33.8 euro cents on average. With an average price of over 1.18 euro per kilo, the same applies to peppers if we lump all colors together.

After weeks of well above-average prices, with the start of fresh summer crops and autumn crops approaching, the strawberry price at the VBT has dropped back to the five-year average. Volumes were lower in the recent period. Week 33 left an average price for all varieties combined of €3.24 per kilo.
