José Carlos Flores of Genap México about the Mexican market:

"The mindset of mediocrity in doing things is gone within the Mexican industry"

Genap, a Dutch company specializing in the area of structures and application of membranes for horticulture, agriculture, and civil engineering projects, has supplied water tanks made of sheet metal, as well as water reservoirs in Mexico, for many years.

Horticulture in Mexico has evolved significantly in recent years as production has expanded for exports to the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. José Carlos Flores of Genap México, who provides locally to the Mexican market, tells us more.

"In the beginning, there were concerns about the freshness and traceability of products coming from Mexico. However, the pride of showcasing our products to the world has driven us to continuously improve our horticultural and horti-fruity practices," says José.

José says that the new generation of producers has combined their fresh perspective, global vision, and strategies with the experience of the generation that established the industry in Mexico. Together, they focus on maximizing water utilization in production, from planning and equipping production centers to their operation.

"The mindset of mediocrity in doing things is almost gone within the Mexican industry. There are now many more of us working with top-quality products and processes to offer the world the pride and tireless work of Mexican families. The joy of sharing a piece of our country fills us with excitement every morning. This can also be seen in the numbers, the industry has experienced significant growth over the last 10 years, with a net value increase of almost 97%. Trade map data on tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, and pepper exports (classified under 0702, 04, and 09) reflect this growth."

José mentions that the industry has transformed from informal practices to a more professional, durable, and quality-oriented approach in a relatively short period and that Mexico now has a strong connection with the world in terms of commerce, facilitated by communication and the influence of social media. The return on investment model, safety provisions, traceability in production, and long-term stability of agribusinesses have prompted producers of all sizes to seek more durable solutions that improve water quality for their crops.

"Mexicans have always been known for our creativity, and there are several methods for water storage and alternatives to corrugated steel water storage tanks. There are solutions, such as steel mesh tanks with HDPE membranes, both domestically manufactured and imported. Additionally, there are ponds lined with membranes made from various materials. Mexican creativity will remain and thrive, but there is a growing desire to combine that creativity with professionalism to instill confidence in the world and the products we send, as well as in the people who work tirelessly every day," says José.

José says this can also be seen in the amazement and interest of our customers when they present products like the GenaFlexstore fully closed storage system for protecting and controlling potable, treated, and irrigation water. "Not only in the horticultural industry but also in the government and other sectors, there is a growing interest in our products due to Genap's impeccable track record," José concludes.
