Jennifer Hotz from Bressan Obst und Gemüse:

"The demand for eggplants is very high, because they have many uses"

This week, Reichenau-Gemüse eG started the season for products such as eggplants, peppers, and cocktail tomatoes, which are now also in the assortment of the company Früchte Bressan from Eggingen. "We obtain our products mainly from the vegetable island of Reichenau. We started with the eggplant season this week. The quality is very good, although it must be emphasized that the quality of all the products of the cooperative is excellent," Jennifer Hotz of Früchte Bressan informs us.

"The demand for eggplants is very high, as they can be used in many ways, such as for grilling, as a puree, etc. They have a weight of 250 to 300 grams. In terms of price, eggplants are at a comparable level to last year. They are offered loose and unpackaged, as it is important to our customers to use as little plastic as possible." Although imported goods are occasionally offered, the farm's focus is on selling regional goods, especially with produce from the Gemüseinsel as well as from the Kaiserstuhl region.

Great demand for Heimatkiste
Früchte Bressan's main business consists of supplying restaurants, hotels, small village stores, cafés, schools, etc. "You notice that people want to go out more. In addition, children are frequenting school canteens and cafeterias again. This is clearly noticeable in sales. In addition, we run a sales business in Eggingen for private customers, for whom we also offer our Heimatkisten, to which they can subscribe."

The Heimatkisten are fruit and vegetable boxes that are individually stocked depending on the household. "Our customers can specify exactly which items they want to purchase. The demand is so great that there is now even a waiting list. However, it is also important to us to pay attention to quality and to offer our customers a suitable, satisfactory product instead of relying purely on mass production."
