Flemish greenhouse vegetable growers numbers grow between 2019-2021

Every year, there are fewer greenhouse vegetable growers in Belgium. However, those numbers grew in the last two years, according to updated Flemish greenhouse vegetable cultivation figures.

Each company also has a greater average area of vegetables under glass. In 2021, an average of 1.8 ha of vegetables was grown under glass per company. For specialized greenhouse vegetable farms, the average area is 2.3 hectares.

Still, it should be noted that many growers have stopped due to the pandemic and then the energy crisis. An update of the latest figures could reflect that. The scale increase that has begun will continue.

In 2021, vegetables were cultivated under glass at 699 - three percent of - Flemish agricultural companies. Of those, 495 were specialized vegetable farms.

These graphs come from a platform with the Flemish Agriculture and Fisheries Department's Agricultural figures updated on March 14, 2023.
