Germans seek most expensive Salatgurken: €3.29 each

Class 1 cucumbers at supermarket chain Edeka in Germany for €3.29 each. On the social media app TikTok, a video has gone viral showing the cucumbers with a serious price tag. NOS writes about it.

Prices for Salatgurken are skyrocketing. Cucumbers in the Netherlands are also expensive. Conventionally, the unit price at the big supermarket's AH, and Jumbo is €1.39 and organic €1.79, a glance at the websites shows.

At Delhaize and Carrefour in Belgium, the price is €1.45 for conventional. Organic, Delhaize has one for €1.79. Colruyt has an organic one for €1.59. Provenance information cannot be found with certainty in this regard. Jumbo in the Netherlands says 'Dutch,' but online also points to the packaging. Other supermarket websites also give no guarantees.

The supply of local cucumbers is steadily increasing, though. The real peak price (a middle price of €1.15) for cucumber thus seems to have been reached on the Flemish clock for now.

Inflation in Germany is even higher than in the Netherlands. Food prices rose 21.8 percent in Germany in February compared to 2022. In the Netherlands, it was 15.1 percent.
