USDA files action against New Jersey company for alleged PACA violations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has filed an administrative complaint against James Corrado Inc., doing business as Corrado Specialty Goods and Corrado’s Wine Grapes Inc. (Corrado), for alleged violations of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA). The company, operating from New Jersey and doing business as Corrado Specialty Goods, allegedly failed to make payment promptly to 12 produce sellers in the amount of $1,101,728 from April 2020 through May 2022. The company, operating from New Jersey and doing business as Corrado’s Wine Grapes Inc., allegedly failed to make payment promptly to three produce sellers in the amount of $515,561 from September 2020 through October 2021.

Corrado will have an opportunity to request a hearing. Should USDA find that the company committed repeated and flagrant violations, it would be barred from the produce industry as a licensee for three years or two years with the posting of a USDA-approved surety bond. Furthermore, its principals could not be employed by or affiliated with any PACA licensee for two years or one year with the posting of a USDA-approved surety bond.
