Not many people in the fruit and vegetable world are familiar with the name Perfect Pack Logistic (PPL). This Dutch company was only founded on January 1, 2022, but has a long history as Haluco's logistics service provider. Haluco Beheer had sold its commercial division to Frankort&Koning's shareholders but not its logistics and packaging activities. The company decided to continue its logistics activities as an independent entity: PPL.
"So, the name's quite new, but some of its people have been around for, literally, 40 years. In fact, the longest-serving employee has been here for 44 years, and some have 30+ years of experience," says manager Jouke Dukel. Things like sealing cucumbers, flow-packing bell peppers, and sealing and labeling grapes are, therefore, nothing new for PPL.
What is new, however, is that the company now does these things for third parties. "Haluco is still a major customer, but we operate completely independently and now have a nice variety of companies among our clientele."
Those activities include providing a comprehensive logistics service for fruit and vegetables, such as storage, transshipment, cross-docking, and packaging in all standard packaging forms. "Sealing cucumbers and bell peppers, flow packing, and sorting is our daily business. In the summer, we have our hands' full packing Dutch vegetables," Jouke continues.
"But especially from October to April, we still have the capacity left to help overseas importers with, say, labeling or top-sealing various products. We're an independent customs warehouse, so we can also receive containers and do independent inspections thanks to our RIK certification."
"We have a lot of air-conditioned pallet storage space. It's an automated warehouse," Jouke explains. "That fully guarantees product tracking & tracing. And the different separated compartments mean products can be stored at desired temperatures." Sustainability is also a high priority at PPL.
"We use a cold/heat source and green energy generated by our solar panels, so we reduce CO2 emissions. Also, we reuse packaging materials wherever possible and separate and recycle waste streams. That ensures we play our part in a more sustainable, cleaner future," Jouke concludes.
