Growing demand for hydroponic produce in Egypt

The Egyptian company Hydrofarms is about to take a major leap in its expansion, from a volume of 240 tons this season to 3000 tons next season. This news, announced by the CEO of Hydrofarms, Mr. Adel El Shentenawy, is due to the company's investment plan, which comes in response to growing demand.

The company was founded in Egypt in 2012 and varied its operations between building hydroponic farms, converting old farms into hydroponic farms, and contracting growers for resale under its brand "Peret." Mr. El Shentenawy said, "We're pioneers in providing smart, local, and feasible agricultural solutions in Egypt. We've developed our local know-how and Agri-Tech solutions to scale our operations across Egypt and the region."

The grower produces 35 varieties of tomatoes, 20 varieties of Sweet and Chili Peppers, different varieties of standard and special lettuce (Salanova), as well as aromatic herbs. Mr. El Shentenawy explains: "We produce all year round as it is Hydroponic systems, which helps with seasonality and production consistency throughout the year."

Through the increase in volumes, the company was mainly targeting the local market due to its growing demand but intends -according to Mr. El Shentenawy- to start exporting next season, targeting Arab Gulf countries, EU, and African markets.
