Dutch Greenhouse Technologies at AgroWorld Kazakhstan

On November 2, in Almaty, within the framework of the AgroWorld Kazakhstan 2022 exhibition, a session, "Greenhouses Business in Kazakhstan: Data-Driven Growing," was held as part of the AgroWorld Kazakhstan Agro-Industrial Complex Forum focused on the challenges and prospects for the development of agricultural business in Kazakhstan. During the Session, Dutch greenhouse technologies were presented, as well as advanced developments and scientific research in the agriculture of Kazakhstan.

Focus on production capacity and efficiency increase
The greenhouse industry of Kazakhstan has been actively developing since 2008. To date, more than 2,500 hectares of greenhouses have been registered in Kazakhstan, including 300 hectares of high-tech greenhouse complexes; they are mostly located in the southern region of the country. As of 2021, 204 out of 5517 greenhouse units registered in Kazakhstan are flower greenhouses. Nowadays, Kazakhstan is introducing new technologies for the construction and maintenance of greenhouses in different regions of the country.

On the first day of the AgroWorld Kazakhstan exhibition, the session "Greenhouses Business in Kazakhstan: Data-Driven Growing" was organized with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the session, participants discussed how to increase the production capacity and efficiency of greenhouses using Dutch technologies. Four speakers representing the Netherlands agri business took part in the session and shared their expertise and recommendations.

Government support
Azat Sultanov, Director of the Department of Production and Processing of Crop Products of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, also spoke at the session. He indicated that to support the construction and modernization of greenhouses, the Ministry plans to amend the rules for investment subsidies. "The current maximum allowable cost of projects when calculating subsidies is no longer relevant because the prices of 2016 are taken into account there. The development of the industry, the modernization of equipment, new mechanisms - all this does not stand still, everything is developing, and these trends should be present in Kazakhstan," – Mr. Sultanov said. Therefore, the Ministry is currently collecting up-to-date price information from market participants, which will be taken into account when making changes to the rules.

Union of Greenhouses of Kazakhstan
The Union of Greenhouses of Kazakhstan became a general partner of the Session "Greenhouse business in Kazakhstan: Information Data in Farming." Its president Nurlan Adilkhan talked about the role of the Union in the development of the greenhouse sector in Kazakhstan.

The Union of Greenhouses of Kazakhstan was created in 2020 at the initiative of the leaders of large greenhouse complexes in Kazakhstan. The activities of the Union are aimed at developing the greenhouse business of the country, representing and protecting the interests of greenhouse farms in the legislative authorities. The Union, together with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, implemented the mechanisms of state support in obtaining subsidies for seeds and mineral wool substrates. The work is also underway to increase the threshold for the maximum allowable cost for the construction of greenhouses and subsidies for organic fertilizers.
