Delhi High Court to rule about informing consumers if fresh produce were ripened artificially

The Delhi High Court has asked India's Food Safety and Standards Authority to issue guidelines before the court that will inform consumers if fruit and vegetables are ripened artificially.

The bench of judges made the ruling and is expecting different counsel to present the guidelines in front of them that will indicate if ethylene gas or other artificial ripeners should have an indication placed on it or not. This follows the importation and seizure by customs officials of the chemical "Ethrel," intended for the ripening of fruit and not for growing.
