"Despite the great uncertainty that has characterized 2022, we introduced a new soil-less strawberry system with three adjustable eaves that have achieved results we would never have expected. We installed approximately 20 hectares in various Italian regions, including Basilicata, Calabria, Marche, Sardinia, and Puglia, between April and October," reports Rocco Carrera, production manager at Combimetal Carrera, creator and manufacturer of innovative systems for the production of strawberries.

Combimetal Carrera has recently set up a soil-less strawberry crop at Nicofruit in Scanzano Jonico (Matera). "The advantages of our cultivation system, which consists of 3 eaves installed 50 cm apart, are immediately appreciated by workers. Our clients say workers thank them because these new systems have considerably improved their work conditions."

"We already have another 10 hectares planned for 2023, but we believe demand will grow as soon as the systems become productive in the various areas. As we send the quotes, we reassure entrepreneurs that it is possible to recoup the initial investment already during a normal season."
Fixing bases are essential to prevent the rod from sinking into the ground under the weight of the eaves, blocks, and production.
There are many advantages to installing a soil-less crop: first of all, it makes it possible to save 40% of labor, with a cleaner production environment, bigger yields, more uniform plants and fruits, and an excellent control of phytosanitary conditions, leading to fewer interventions, zero risks of damaging the fruits and easier harvesting operations.
