More than 150 companies joined from all over Vietnam

Organizers of HortEx Vietnam held a kick-off event for HortEx Vietnam 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City

On the 11th of October, the organizers of HortEx Vietnam, VEAS (Vietnam), and Nova Exhibitions (The Netherlands) organized a successful Kick-off event for HortEx Vietnam 2023. The event attracted some 150 companies from all over Vietnam, which are interested in participating in the upcoming edition of HortEx Vietnam 2023. The next edition of HortEx Vietnam will be held from 1-3 March 2023 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The aim of the event was to make companies familiar with the HortEx Vietnam exhibition and, in addition, provide the delegates with market information and insights about the current market situation in Vietnam and in the region.

Speakers at the event included Mr. Le Van Duc, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD), Ms. Ingrid Korving, Agricultural Counsellor from the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Vietnam, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association and Mr. Dau Quoc Hung, Deputy Director General of Asia-Africa Market Department from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, gave a presentation on the overview of the Horticultural and Floricultural Industry in Vietnam, while Mr. Dau Quoc Hung, Deputy Director General of the Asia-Africa Market Department from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), presented new updated information about the export market of horticulture and floriculture products to China and Asia.

The event was closed with a panel discussion about opportunities and challenges after the pandemic for the horticulture and floriculture sector in Vietnam.

The organizers were very pleased with the large interest and are very much looking forward to a successful HortEx Vietnam in 2023. Mr. Nguyen Ba Vinh, General Director of VEAS, and Mr. Kuno Jacobs, Managing Director of Nova Exhibitions, stated: “This Kick-off meeting once again clearly indicated the large interest and development in the horticulture and floriculture sector in Vietnam, and it is evident that everyone, after the pandemic, is eager to meet face-to-face again. For the upcoming edition of HortEx Vietnam, we therefore even expect more international and local companies to participate in the exhibition.”

The Netherlands is the “Partner Country” of HortEx Vietnam 2023 and will host a sustainable booth at the exhibition. The Agricultural Counsellor of the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam, Ms. Ingrid Korving, stated: “One of the focus points for the cooperation between The Netherlands and Vietnam will be sustainability and circularity. There are many opportunities for Dutch businesses to contribute to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese horticulture and floriculture sector and, by doing so, upgrading the sector to a higher level.”

The Vietnamese Horticulture sector is growing rapidly, with production systems slowly moving away from traditional open-field production to protected cultivation. Food safety and quality are becoming more and more important due to increasing local consumer demand for safe food and high standards and the increase of exports to various export markets, including the EU.

For 2022 the Vietnamese GDP is expected to rebound to 7%, and for 2023 similar growth rates are expected. With these figures, Vietnam is by far the fastest-growing economy in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.
