Alverno College celebrated the grand opening of a new greenhouse Tuesday, October 11. The laboratory will be used to sustainably grow plants, vegetables, and even yellow perch.
Students from all programs are able to visit the 1,400-square-foot facility for hands-on learning. Alverno College Interim President Joseph Foy says the greenhouse gives back to the community.
"The greenhouse food is harvested and provided to our on-campus food pantry," Foy said. Attendees of the building's grand opening Tuesday were able to sample some of the harvest, including kale, tomato, and fish hors d'oeuvres.
