Bankruptcy was declared on 27 September for Tas Tomatoes, a tomato grower from Zevenhuizen. Currently, there are still crops in the five greenhouses of the snacking tomato grower. Curator Gerben Barendregt is currently looking into whether that crop can be finished. This is also confirmed by grower Wim Tas, who speaks of a "very unpleasant situation," "also for the employees."
The trustee is investigating the cause of the bankruptcy. He cannot say anything definitive about it so soon after the bankruptcy was declared. On Wednesday, the 28 September, he was at the farm and did learn that high energy costs have weighed heavily on the grower. In addition to high gas and electricity costs, the grower himself also says that prices for cherry tomatoes have been bad. The grower said earlier that he consciously opted for day trading. Tas Tomatoes is a member of growers' association ZON.
Besides a cultivation branch, Tas also has a packaging company and a housing branch. The trustee emphasizes that the bankruptcy concerns only the cultivation branch. Tas works with several rental greenhouses and uses a CHP. The grower says it has "thought differently in recent years." Earlier, the grower indicated he had no successor.
The bankruptcy reference is: 09.dha.22.199.F.1300.1.22. W&J Tas Beheer B.V. has also been declared bankrupt. G. Barendregt of La Gro Geelkerken Advocaten in Alphen aan den Rijn has been appointed trustee.
