A.M.A. Horticulture celebrates Always Learning, Always Growing at CGC

Horticultural wholesaler celebrates 40 years and looks ahead to the next forty

“In the forty years that A.M.A. Horticulture has been around, we have partnered with a lot of family-owned companies, working with the first, second, and now the third generations,” says Connie Bradt, managing director at A.M.A. Horticulture.

For A.M.A Horticulture, the 40th anniversary has been about celebrating the past four decades while looking ahead to the future, with their anniversary theme, Always Learning, Always Growing. As a wholesale supplier to commercial growers, the company has had the great pleasure of working with suppliers and growers alike, and often with multi-generational, family-owned operations.

“There has been a shift in mindset in recent generations, with growers thinking that just because something works doesn’t mean they can’t innovate to improve it. We embrace that mindset because that’s how we approach this industry, too. You can’t grow if you’re not learning,” says Connie.

A.M.A. Horticulture is celebrating its 40th anniversary with the Canadian Greenhouse Conference in Booth #325. On October 5th at 1:30, the A.M.A. Horticulture team will be serving cake to celebrate its milestone year and is inviting all conference attendees to join in their celebration.

New A.M.A. Learning Café in Leamington to bring growers together
According to communications and marketing manager Elise Johnson, A.M.A. Horticulture will be opening a Learning Café at its office in Kingsville, Ontario. Through the Learning Café, the company aims to provide a neutral space where industry members can gather to share ideas, discuss issues in the industry and hear from guest speakers.

“This new space embodies our commitment to always learning, always growing. We want to be a welcoming space for conversation, collaboration, and learning in all areas of horticulture, including the greenhouse, ornamental, and nursery. We want to be able to connect with the next generation of growers, facilitate expert speakers and bring together different research centers and associations. This is part of our legacy at A.M.A. and how we want to cultivate the future of horticulture,” explains Elise.

Sponsoring Berry Talks session at CGC
At this year’s Canadian Greenhouse Conference, A.M.A. Horticulture is sponsoring the Strawberry Production segment, which includes four presentations on greenhouse strawberry production, taking place on October 6th at 2:00. One of these presentations will be given by Shawn Mallen, hydroponics and berries manager at A.M.A. Horticulture. Shawn’s expertise in the North American berry industry goes back over ten years when he started helping growers apply European berry production innovations, especially substrates. Entitled “Getting Off the Ground: Growing Berries in Substrates,” Shawn’s presentation will share different production systems and substrates available to strawberry growers and how to choose among these.

Between Shawn’s Berry Substrate 101 presentation and the anniversary celebration in Booth #325, the A.M.A Horticulture team is looking forward to reconnecting in person with as many attendees as possible.
