Italy's Med Group on greenhouse 4.0 and more

Protected cropping: an open day to explore the latest trends

An open day showcasing the most advanced and innovative solutions was held in a dedicated area of the showroom hosted by Med Group, an Italian company engaged in the design and construction of protected greenhouses for the horticulture, floriculture, and professional nursery sectors.

Jean Pierre Lejeune

On the occasion, more than 130 visitors from all over southern Italy and beyond were able to learn about the newest trends in the industry, also with the help of a dozen exhibitors who, in addition to enriching the range of sustainable proposals in agriculture, also took part in the conference.

"Never before have the issues of rationalization of so-called renewable sources been as relevant as they are today," said Jean Pierre Lejeune, president of Med Group and Europrogress, on the sidelines of the conference. "If until a few years ago, in the pre-pandemic era, the sector was oriented towards reducing water use and saving energy almost as a mere economic matter, today these factors mark the difference between whether a company can actually continue to exist or close down. Soaring utility bills, unprecedented prices for fuels, and for the materials needed to get the agricultural campaign going, have left us facing urgent matters, which can be addressed with the right technology and make greenhouse horticulture still possible."

It was under the supervision of Lejeune that Ester Occhipinti (Sales Office), Massimiliano Nicosia (Sales Manager for Sicily), and Francesco Tommaseo (Technical Manager for Southern Italy) guided visitors through the event, covering technical and commercial aspects.

MedGroup staff was able to address various inquiries and concerns from manufacturers about the innovations available for protected structures. Not only cold greenhouses but also super-technological climate-controlled ones, mushroom houses, polytunnels, storage facilities, and covers for agricultural vehicles. There was also an interesting small (but well-executed) expo area set up by Med Group for the day, which gave the attendees the opportunity to delve into their companies' products and services with other producers and stakeholders.
