Fiberglass structures for soilless crops

Shelves, profiles, grids, supports - all elements at the basis of hydroponic and aeroponic cultivations. But what about the layout and materials? At the recent NovelFarm fair, P-Trex has displayed all its fiberglass solutions (the correct technical name is PRFV). Fiberglass was invented in Italy in 1926 for the aviation industry: it is a composite material that sees glass fibers soaked in a thermosetting resin matrix.

"We design and manufacture profiles and all kinds of PRFV structures ideal for alternative crops that need shelving," explains Laura Rinaldi from the P-Trex marketing department.

"Used as structural or frame profiles or for more complex structures, our pultruded profiles guarantee the same great resistance of steel but boast one-quarter of the density. The lighter design and total weight below that of traditional materials mean lower installation costs in terms of special machinery, personnel, and assembly times."

'Pultruded' profiles and printed grids, used alone or together within the same project, become the building blocks of structures made entirely of fiberglass (PRFV). This material is light, resistant, and does not fear corrosion by water or other substances.

"Our company designs and manufactures products made entirely in Italy. When it comes to soilless crops, we also export to other countries such as France, Belgium, and Spain. It is also possible to choose the color of the structure."
