Genap joins Wageningen University & Research’s 100 Club

On the 1st of January 2022, Genap joined Wageningen University & Research’s exclusive Club of 100; a network of suppliers in greenhouse horticulture. The purpose of the Club of 100 is to promote applied research in greenhouse horticulture in the Netherlands.

Director Dick van Regteren talks about the choice to join this network. "An important reason for us to participate the club is the high degree of innovative power that comes out of collaborations with other members. It also grants Genap access to facilities that enable innovative solutions research.

Sustainable water usage is a daily topic and a goal that we, as a provider of water storage systems in horticulture, work hard to achieve. Take, for example, the Genap Energy Cover that was installed onto the rainwater basin at Wageningen University & Research in Bleiswijk at the end of last year. This is an anti-algae water basin cover into which flexible, floating solar panels are integrated. By combining water storage and electricity generation, this unique solution makes efficient use of a grower’s scarce space. Energy that the grower can then use for their business operation. Given the many positive reactions to the concept, it has become evident that there is a great need for such a system.

The next few months will be used to collect data and to gauge the interest of growers, on the basis of which the product will be developed further. In doing so, we will pay extra attention to increasing the generating power of the flexible solar panels. By working closely with other members of the Club of 100 and scientists from the University, we expect to have caught up with the current lag in energy yield within two years."
