More than 200 participants from Spain, Great Britain, France, Germany, Denmark, and the United States were able to see for themselves the wide range of babyleaves offered by Italy's Maraldi Sementi. This is the result of the continuous genetic improvement carried out by Maraldi. The Maraldi 2021 Field Days were held at the F.lli Valcalcer company in Battipaglia, Salerno, Italy, from Monday 6 December to Saturday 11 December 2021.
There are 38 lettuce varieties, with a full resistance package. They have high resistance to bremia lactucae (HR Bl: 16-37) and unique and distinctive characteristics. There were 11 varieties of wild arugula, for a range enriched by new hybrids with high performance in yield and tolerance to bacterial pests, and a wide range of baby brassicas (kale, Pak Choi, Tat Soi, and Mizuna), also possible thanks to new hybrids. Furthermore, there were 15 varieties of red chard, Bull's Blood, and hybrid green beets, unmistakable for their phenotypic characteristics and with good placement throughout the growing cycle.
To complete this rich panorama, spinach was added. Several varieties with high resistance to downy mildew were presented. "It is a crop that increases the quality of the range offered by Maraldi and is expected to come soon with varieties suitable for growing babyleaf and teen leaf," said Maraldi representatives.
In addition, the company Maisto Pierpaolo also presented valerian from Maraldi's line. This is a range that has been enriched in recent years with new and promising varieties. "Currently, there are eight varieties of valerian under cultivation, including 4 commercial and 4 pre-commercial, with characteristics suitable to cover the different production cycles."
"This event has become an annual appointment, an important moment to present all the latest novelties, which is synonymous with continuous work to improve that includes everything that embraces the development of a new variety," said the representatives of Maraldi.
