16 and 17 February 2022, Pordenone Fiere, Italy

The NovelFarm fair is ready to be held again

The event on new cultivation techniques such as vertical farming, soilless cultivation, aquaponics, and hydro/aeroponics will be back at the Pordenone Fair on 16 and 17 February 2022 for its third edition.

This event, which is unique in Italy in terms of international reach entirely dedicated to these topics, is addressed to the entire chain of professionals in the world of farm technologies and particularly of indoor and vertical farming and to those who are approaching this market for the first time or want to innovate their business.

NovelFarm 2020 Edition

The focus on sustainable food production is a trend that is becoming increasingly successful thanks to more informed consumer choices, and studies have shown that the pandemic has accelerated this process. In research published by Precedence Research, the value of the world market of vertical farming has highlighted how 3.3 billion dollars were generated in 2020, with a forecast of 25.2% annual growth, leading to a value of $31.6 billion in 2030. The same study showed that the most important segment is that of components for hydroponics and that from now until 2030 the control of the environmental conditions of the plant will grow.

Technology is, therefore, a key driver of this change, a trend also highlighted during the NovelFarm Digital Preview, when Maria Pavesi, researcher at the Smart AgriFood Observatory, pointed out that most innovations in the agritech sector are aimed at optimizing production factors, such as water resources, and monitoring and automation through software platforms, IoT, and data analytics. These technologies are mostly used for hydroponic cultivations also in different frameworks, like traditional greenhouses, plant factories, and urban cultivated crops.

All of these and other solutions will be the main themes of NovelFarm. The exhibition area will be enriched by a program of conferences and seminars, which will present innovative products and services and will be an opportunity to meet and discuss with experts operating in this sector.

The main themes of the conferences will be:

  • CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) and future developments of indoor crops
  • Vertical farming markets
  • The new frontiers of horticulture in terms of seeds, biostimulants, genetics, and light
  • Technological innovations in support of agriculture, big data, open innovation, and AI
  • Greenhouses green and tech
  • Agriculture and urban regeneration

Among the novelties of the 2022 edition is AlgaeFarm, an event dedicated to algaeculture that was already present in previous editions but will be given more space this year. The event will offer the opportunity to meet the operators of a growing sector, but also to participate in conferences and debates on research and development of technologies for the cultivation and application of algae and microalgae. These species are used in different fields ranging from human and animal nutrition, to the production of sustainable energy and biofuel and applications in circular economy and the chemical-pharmaceutical sector.
