Since the beginning of this year, those at TK-Topboiler have seen a growing demand for an alternative to gas-fired boilers, particularly the e-boiler. The technology has been around for a while, but the large initial investment and the price of electricity meant that it was not an option for a long time. Tom van Reeven: "Now we're seeing more and more support because of the high gas prices and growers thinking of the future."
With the e-boiler, a bundle of electrodes is pushed into the boiler where the boiler tube would normally be. Thanks to certain techniques in the boiler and the absence of chimney losses, the efficiency of this boiler is almost 100%. "Input=output. In addition, the power is adjustable from 1% to 100%."
The technique can also be applied to hybrid boilers in combination with a gas or hydrogen burner.
Reducing power can be attractive at certain times because it allows for actively supporting balance in the power grid. "At times when there is more supply than demand, the boiler can replenish the heat buffer for use at another time, at a very attractive rate."
At the moment, the investments are still very high compared to traditional boilers, Tom knows. "However, when these techniques are used more frequently, production processes can be optimized and costs reduced."
