“We have targeted SMEs who want to digitalize"

When a business, especially a start-up, is looking at digitalization, it can be a daunting, not to mention expensive, affair.

Faedah Solutions has technology aimed at Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to make the digitalization process easier and more affordable. The company itself is a very young business, but Director Wayne Johnson has worked in the food industry for 25 years.

“Last month we launched our Mobile Barcode Validation scanner. Other label verification technology has always targeted use in factories or packhouses, but we have found that people starting up often only have one production line, or are sometimes just working from a table. The bigger systems available don’t lend themselves to this. There are also more and more people packing directly in the fields, where it can be difficult to be online.”

The Mobile Barcode Validation scanner is fully portable, and it does not only scan barcodes, it can also validate. The product information, such as product pictures, primary and secondary packaging barcodes, and more, is entered into the central database in the main factory. The device is synced back to the main database, ensuring all the information is now contained in the device. Once out in the field, if, for example, the wrong packaging is used, a red warning on the screen is raised when the barcode is scanned.

“This can all be done on a mobile device such as a phone, tablet, etc. The benefit of that is that people are already familiar with these devices, and it is very cost-effective on top of that,” said Wayne.

“We have targeted SMEs who want to digitalize. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it can be built into a more comprehensive platform through time by introducing more modules, such as our paperless check system – Check Sure.”
