Dutch King and Queen visit UAE expo

On the 4th of November 2021, Certhon participated in the trade mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the visit to the SuprimAir greenhouse they have built for Pure Harvest. This trade mission, of which Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were part, was about sustainable urban development with the aim to solve global challenges together.

Damion Schwarzkachel, Export Manager at Certhon, represented Certhon at this mission by sharing their technologies and knowledge about growing food regardless of challenges such as climate.

Damion Schwarzkachel explains to Her Majesty Queen Máxima how Pure Harvest is able to grow in the desert.

The UAE is the largest export destination for Dutch goods in the Gulf region and the partnership between the Dutch government and the UAE is already strong. During this trade mission, in which Royal Highnesses King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima played an important role, the Dutch government took an extra step in positioning Dutch companies and knowledge in the country.

“The UAE is exposed to scarcity of the exploitation of natural resources, rapid population growth, and high energy demand. The continuing temperature rise contributes to UAE's water scarcity, drought, and aridity”, explains Schwarzkachel. "Due to these conditions, year-round agriculture is a real challenge. Together we aim to solve these global challenges."

Growing fresh produce year-round
Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the Certhon SuprimAir greenhouse of Pure Harvest in Nahel, Abu Dhabi. This interplay of the greenhouse, ventilation, cooling, irrigation, and automated control was built in 2018 to create an ideal indoor climate for producing fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables year-round. That is why Pure Harvest is able to produce high-quality fruits and vegetables every day of the year, despite the extreme desert climate.

Let’s solve the global challenge together
“By sharing our knowledge about indoor farming and sustainable growing, we have shown to be a key player for solving the challenges the world faces today. During this trade mission, we were able to strengthen our longstanding trade relationship with the UAE. That is one of the most important things when we aim to solve the global challenges, together”, says Schwarzkachel.
