On 15 September 1961 Albert Grootscholten started propagating vegetable plants. Initially this was planting material for cold crops (leafy plants such as lettuce, endive, etc.) and later for hot crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
Sixty years later, his children Johan, Paul and Vera continued the company and a fourth director was added in the persona of Thijs van de Westelaken. It is therefore still a family business and the new generation provides new input and continuation.
In all those years, much has been invested, such as moving from the Westland to Voorne Putten and many in-depth investments for more opportunities and more efficient operations. Sustainable cultivation has also been the focus for many years. This is specifically in the energy supply in the form of geothermal heat, green electricity, LED lighting and their own solar panels, but also in the organisation, the use of raw materials with waste separation, green purchasing and targeted innovations.
The team of employees has now grown to include 30 permanent staff members. Besides vegetable plants, they now also grow cut flowers and potted gerberas. And because it is the birthday boy's birthday, Globe Plant has come up with a great treat. People born in 1961 can come and collect a free gerbera plant from the company. This can be done from 2 to 14 September at the reception at Veckdijk 62b in Vierpolders, between 8.30 and 13.00 hours.
