Strawberries from hydroponic greenhouses in Turkey exported to all over the world

Soilless grown strawberries are produced in Antalya, an important agricultural production region in Turkey. The city, well-known for its fresh vegetable and fruit exports, makes great use of agricultural technologies.

Soilless agriculture is becoming more and more popular throughout the city. One of the products grown there is strawberries. The production of strawberry, which normally has a 6-month season, is extended to 12 months with the help of soilless agriculture.

According to the data of the Western Mediterranean Exporters Union, last year, 2.1 million USD worth of strawberries were exported from the region where Antalya, Isparta, and Burdur are located.

So far in 2021, there was a significant increase in strawberry exports. The region, which exported 60,000 USD worth of strawberries between January 1 and March 17 last year, sold 172,000 USD worth of strawberries, which represents a 186% increase in the same period this year.

Antalya Agriculture and Forestry Director Gokhan Karaca told that the production of strawberries with soilless agriculture has become increasingly common in the city. "Due to the high added value and high market demand, strawberry producers have turned to soilless agriculture. In this way, strawberries can be produced in every season." said.
