'Melting tomato' wins award for taste and concept

The specialty tomato Nippo, developed by Semillas Fitó, has won an award for its taste and texture. "It's a new concept of a melting tomato, which did not exist until now and which is being recommended by some of the best chefs today," the judges said. 

The award is the prestigious “Talent Cambra” award, granted by the Welcome Talent Society and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. The specific award is in the category of "Food and Beverages".

Ferran Adrià stated that "with Nippo I have discovered the pleasure of eating a tomato with an almost invisible skin, melting texture and a sweet flavor that is both intense and deep".

This was the 4th edition of these awards which highlight the work carried out during the year of all kinds of institutions, companies and professionals in four very different fields: Industry and Territory; Trade and Tourism; Technology; and Science and Knowledge.

The award given to Semillas Fitó was collected by Eduard Fitó (Director of corporate affairs) and Jordi Ballester (Director of business development), who emphasized that this award is in recognition of the company’s firm commitment to disruptive thinking and responsible innovation. Nippo is a new concept of melting tomato developed by the team from the “Foodture” specialty division, which analyses and develops varieties to meet new consumer needs.

Nippo is a unique tomato, totally different to what currently exists on the market. It stands out for its shiny and very fine skin, and when bitten it causes an explosion of spectacular flavor. It is a variety that offers a truly new concept to the market and that could change the way tomatoes are developed in the future.
