Leon van den Hombergh, Frankort & Koning:

"Wide range of fruit-vegetables putting pressure on prices"

Current cultivation conditions are excellent in Morocco and Spain. That's making for a substantial supply of various fruit-vegetables. "We receive more than enough product daily. That's from our regular producers in Morocco and southern Spain," says Leon van den Hombergh of Frankort & Koning in the Netherlands. "Our Dutch and Belgian growers are also still working on their traditional crops. So, there's generally plenty of supply."

“The Sinterklaas period is usually quieter for vegetable sales. So, this large supply is certainly causing low prices. The current prices aren't anything unusual. But, of course, we hope we'll quickly be able to work our way up again from week 50 onwards. That's better for everyone involved," concludes Leon.
