Developed by people who hate tomatoes

Tomato yoghurt on sale in Japan

What did you have for breakfast this morning? Tomatoes? No? Well, maybe you'll have them within a few years. The Japanese company Morinaga Milk Industry has created tomato yoghurt. Fun fact: the product was created by people who dislike tomatoes.

The company has found out that people who hate tomatoes have a better understanding of the flavor. Now that the product is finished, some of these tomato-haters even like the yoghurt product.

The product was released last month and, even though tomatoes and dairy might not seem like a usual combination, the company says reactions are surprisingly good - even from people who dislike tomatoes. "We're using tomatoes with a rich taste and strong texture. The yoghurt is a product in which you can definitely taste the tomato pulp," the company says, adding that they applied food pairing strategies and decided to mask the 'green odor' of tomatoes. "It is a delicious product with moderate acidity."
