Three types of coverings for fruit and vegetables

The vast catalog of Retilplast, a company specialized in the production, transformation and marketing of nets, sheets and tarpaulins, includes fruit and vegetable covers that generate different types of light, such as diffused, jagged diffused and more diffuse diffused direct light.

"The needs of the market are different not only according to the crop planted, but also to commercial needs and therefore the period in which the customer intends to plan the harvest. Among the innovative roofing systems available, three are the most requested and installed thermoplastic films in Europe and Extra.-EU countries, the PolyFilm-Ultra®, Nuovo-PoliTex and PolyUva", explained Francesco Ruggia, general manager of the Campania-based company.

PolyFilm-Ultra - Total Uniform Diffusion

"PolyFilm-Ultra® generates diffused light with a 100% uniform distribution and maximum plant yield. This sheet is used for permanently installed covers, such as red kiwi and yellow kiwi, or to protect the crops during the entire growing cycle, from veraison to harvest. Combined with the manually adjustable central aeration aisle system, the PolyFilm-Ultra helps to achieve an early ripening of about 15 days for cherries, table grapes, apricots, peaches and blueberries."

Nuovo-PoliTex - Jagged Diffusion

"Nuovo-PoliTex, instead, is a plastic-coated tarpaulin that generates jagged diffused light, often used to extend the harvesting period, thanks to its excellent refreshing power. If installed before veraison, it allows to obtain a ripening extension of about 10 days, so as to stagger the harvest and not flood the market. The Nuovo-PoliTex stands out for its mechanical strength, which makes it remarkably resistant to tears and for the excellent passage of UV rays."

PolyUva - Diffusion-Mixed

"Finally, the PolyUva is a polyethylene film with excellent resistance to solar exposure, which generates mixed direct and diffused light. This cover, typically installed already after lignification and the grapes are about to ripen, is used to protect the production from rain."
