Transfesa Logistics and Euro Pool System (EPS) have signed an agreement to promote the CoolRail route. As a result of this alliance, the first direct rail connection for refrigerated products between Valencia and Rotterdam is expanding its coverage area to reach all of Europe.
Both companies are joining forces in a new era in which this service's activity and commercial operations will continue under the name of CoolRail powered by Transfesa Logistics.
This new cooperation will make it possible to offer a wider network to the market. In addition to the main route to Rotterdam, other destinations include the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries, Germany and Poland, among others. To this end, they'll collaborate with DB Cargo, the main shareholder of Transfesa Logistics.
The expansion of this express cold chain from Valencia to London will give CoolRail's British customers a fast, sustainable and financially attractive transport solution. The commissioning of a direct train to Cologne will allow CoolRail powered by Transfesa Logistics to also reach Scandinavia, Poland and the Czech Republic through Germany. The goal of both companies is to intensify their cooperation to create these new connections.
The CEO of Transfesa Logistics, Bernd Hullerum, is very satisfied with this new partnership, and explained that the association with EPS “is a great opportunity for us to show the fresh produce marketing sector that the railroad can be as fast and reliable as road transport. Moreover, this is contributing to the creation of a more environmentally-friendly supply chain, since trains release nine times less CO₂ than trucks." This new alliance is strengthening the company's strategy of promoting international corridors, with railways as the backbone of a door-to-door service.
For his part, the CEO of Euro Pool System, Gerjo Scheringa, said that “we are excited about this next step to achieve greater sustainability in the logistics sector across Europe. Our partnership with Transfesa Logistics will allow us to reduce CO₂ emissions by replacing road traffic with a direct rail connection.”
