Poverty is a challenge facing all countries and the international community as a whole. Promoting development, eliminating poverty and achieving common prosperity is an ideal that humanity constantly pursues. China has a large poverty-stricken population in the rural areas, making it particularly difficult to fight this. Solving this problem is one of the big issues of China's poverty reduction program and greenhouses play an important role in it.
The Chinese government invests a lot of money to build all kind of greenhouses in the rural area. These include high-tech glass facilities, mid-tech plastic film greenhouse and plastic tunnels. The greenhouses of course can be used to grow all kind of crops such as fruit vegetables, leaf vegetables, flowers and green plants. Local associations will help the growers to join agriculture corporations. The greenhouse production will be sold to the related corporation and then distributed to other cities in China. This is the basic way to get profit from greenhouse.
The second way is to develop rural tourism industry with greenhouse projects. Some greenhouse projects are located around the cities, where there's a bigger population with a higher income. They are the target group of this rural tourism: these people can visit the greenhouses, where they can see the beautiful landscape and many kinds of crops.
These greenhouse projects are named agriculture park. The tourist buys an entrance ticket and can also pick up the fruits inside greenhouse, which ensures the grower of a price above the market price. In addition to show and promote their own goods, agricultural corporations will also invest money to build greenhouses showing the newest agriculture technology and adopting landscape to absorb visitors.
The visitors would will also spend money on foods in the restaurants and shops around the greenhouses. It’s called twice-consuming model which brings high profit and more job opportunities for the local farmers. This model is very welcomed by the government and big corporation.
Agricultural carnival has been a popular business model around the Chinese cities and during the national holidays the turnover is even higher.
Greenhouse project need a high investment and it can take longer time to achieve the return on investment in China. Chinese greenhouse builder Kingpeng has studied this and works with cooperations, groups and local governments to help rural areas get the most benefits from their greenhouse. "Greenhouses now are playing a more and more important role to fight the poverty in China," they conclude.
