Waste disposal is an important aspect of retail - even if it takes place almost exclusively behind the scenes. The entire chain benefits from optimized waste disposal: "In principle, all links in the supply chain for fruit and vegetables are our main customers. Starting with the producers and manufacturers, repackaging and logistics centers, wholesalers, wholesale markets, intermediate warehouses and the last link in the chain, of course the supermarkets and chain stores of all sizes," explains Jan-Peter Krupczynski from HSM LLC + Co.
HSM Umwelttechnik's product portfolio includes vertical and horizontal baling presses with a pressing force of 3 to 70 tonnes, as well as semi and fully automatic channel baling presses with a pressing force of up to 150 tonnes. "Due to the ever increasing consumption of plastics and cardboard and the growing packaging waste mountains, the requirements for recycling have also increased. Storage areas must be used more and more efficiently or are often not available at all," Krupczynski continues. Baling presses from HSM reduce the volume of recyclable materials by up to 95 percent and produce a secondary raw material with the sorted bales, which can be reintegrated into the recycling cycle.
The company offers a wide range of machines to provide the right solution for any size of company: "We offer machines in all size and performance classes. So everyone can find the baler that suits his requirements. In fact, the perfect baler is not based on the size of the company, but on the quantities and materials to be processed."
In principle, every HSM baler is suitable for the materials cardboard, paper and film. "For the fruit and vegetable sector in particular, our machines also press packaging film and light wooden crates, etc.". Furthermore, certain models also efficiently compress PET bottles, hard plastics, textiles, barrels etc."
Before the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the packaging discussion was probably the biggest topic in the German fruit trade industry. HSM would like to help to better deal with the packaging waste, explains Krupczynski: "All products of HSM Umwelttechnik have one goal: the ecological and economical handling of waste materials, which are profitably returned to the recycling cycle. Our balers are always specialists when it comes to compacting waste materials by up to 95% and to compressing them into sorted, optimally transportable bales."
The materials can then be reintegrated into the recycling cycle as secondary raw material, for example. "In addition: Bales have a considerable market value above a certain weight. So it may be that you don't have to pay any more for disposal, but you can generate additional revenue. This is certainly a good incentive to take a more targeted approach to waste recycling."
Furthermore, the company is always working on alternative, ecological solutions. "With our HSM ProfiPack packaging padding machine, for example, used cardboard boxes can be padded and turned into new packaging and filling material. This saves costs and at the same time represents a sensible and practical contribution to environmental protection."
