Rob Baan will speak at Vertical Farming Conference

'The sun is for free'

Microgreen grower Rob Baan promotes fresh produce as health benefit. From his sustainable all electric greenhouses, he supplies 70,000 restaurants in the major European metropole in a circle of 800 km around his farm. He will be a speaker at the online Vertical Farming Conference.

Rob Baan has been the owner of Koppert Cress, a microgreens company, since 2002. “We come up with the most beautiful flavors by delving into the nature and culture of various countries.” These flavors are used by the world’s leading restaurants. Koppert Cress does everything it can to keep innovating. The greenhouses in the Westland are therefore modern and sustainable.

Koppert Cress is always on the lookout for natural, innovative ingredients which chefs can use to intensify the flavour, aroma, or presentation of their dishes; products that meet the increasingly stringent requirements of restaurants worldwide. Cresses are freshly-sprouted seedlings from 100% natural aromatic plants. They offer a freshness and intensity of taste and aroma that is only found in young seedlings.

Online Vertical Farming Conference focuses on technologies for cultivation of agricultural products in a small footprint such as vertical farming and urban agriculture. The topics include:

  • Available technologies – LED lighting, sensors, AI
  • Plant condition issues like: CO2, Nutrients, Irrigation, Climate,
  • Lighting
  • Food safety / HACCP
  • Robotics
  • Improved resource-use efficiency
  • Sustainable Buildings (design, green roof, energy)
  • Smart Cities / Architecture / Urban Design
  • From traditional farmer to vertical farmer
