"Raspberries in the summer in the desert? No way!"

How do you get raspberries to grow in the desert? Well, one way is by upgrading your farm with some greenhouse technology, as one grower from Israel can tell you. Metania Freuind is a second generation grower of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

As the farm got bigger, he and the team started understanding that they need a solution to be able to grow berries out of season, given the pretty harsh conditions in summer. So, they needed a smart greenhouse solution.

"Since this is our first technological project, we would be better off with a turn-key solution greenhouse," Metania explains. Having heard high recommendations for Top Greenhouses, he went with that company to build the new 1-acre facility.

The greenhouse includes a pad and fan system, ensuring that inside the structure is cooler than outside. Even with a record temperature record of 47.7 degrees Celsius outside the greenhouse, inside it was below 30. "That's exactly why we did this project," Metania says. The greenhouse makes it possible to grow raspberries in the Israeli desert, while also protecting against heavy rains and even snow, which can also occur in the desert climate.

Overall, Metania says it's been a "very enjoyable experience with the family-owned company; we've become friends with a lot of people we've worked with. For me, it was one of the biggest projects I've ever done, and Top Greenhouses took care of everything."

Shay Lhermann, TOP Turnkey Solutions Ltd. VP Marketing and Sales, comments: "It was quite a challenge. We had to think out of the box and find a solution that would be effective, yet cost affordable. We are proud of the outcome."
